How much fork oil?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm waiting for the fork springs to come in, I'm 220 ride enduros and HSs and ordered .48kg springs. I'm looking at the manual and what it says is

Standard fork oil capacity (each leg)

709 ml (24.0 US oz, 25.0 lmp oz)

Fork oil level

Standard: 165 mm (6.5 in)

For my weight how much should I use, what weight and do I need a Fork oil level guage to do it?

Thanks, Rookie. :)

should I stick with 5wt oil? I used amsoil 5wt in the shock, figured I'd use the same for the forks. If I don't have a Fork oil level guage what else can I use?

i can't remember if the KLX - R uses the conventional fork or the cartidge fork

if it is just a damping rod fork (same as the S), use 7.5wt or even 10wt

if it is cartidge, 5wt is good.

hope this helps. :)

I use a 150mm ruler, but (maximum) oil height on those forks is like 90mm as stated previously. I'd question the combo of max oil height and heavy spring becoming harsh. heavier spring should allow for less oil height.

I'd begin around the 120mm range
