Stock piston weight?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I roadrace a CRF450 engine (crammed into an RS125 chassis) and the engine is currently at G-Force being rebuilt. During last season we bored it out to 101mm (500cc) -- and the extra weight of the bigger piston seems to have unbalanced the crank.

Does anyone have a stock 2002 piston lying around that you could accurate weigh so we can figure out how much balancing the crank needs? (or anyone who knows how much a stock piston weighs, off the top of their head :) )

With wrist pins, circlip and piston rings if you can!

Chris.

i have this information at home. I only weighed the piston though.

I can't recall exactly but i think it was around 269 grams or so.

The J&E 12.5 was 259 or so. (supposed to be 258)

I will see if i can get you this information tonight. I suppose i could just weigh it over again with piston, rings, clip, wristpin

I just weighed the stock '02-'03 piston without rings or wrist pin. It weighed 267g on my super precise digital scale.

The 101 mm Wiseco piston wihout rings or wrist pin weighed 284g.

Both pistons use the same wrist pins and the Wiseco wrist pin is within 1g of the Honda one.

I would guess the oversized rings to be only about 1g heavier.

Good Luck
