New Toy for the DRZ

Recommended Posts

which ram mount did you buy, how much and from where? thanks

I just bought the mount that is designed for the Etrex series GPS with the 2.5" arm. I had to buy a different ubolt though because the fatbars are to thick for the ubolt that comes with the mount, I did not have to modify the mount to accept the larger u-bolt. Here is where I bought mine...

It's turning off because the batteries are getting shaken around inside their compartment. Wedge some paper inside there to tighten it up until you wire it into your bike ?

I used some thin foam weather stripping stuck on the inside of the battery cover to keep the batteries from shifting. I've never had them bounce loose yet.

Ditto on the RAM mount.

I have a legend as well, and unfortunately, it does not have the circuitry inside to reduce the 12 v to the 3 v used by the unit. You have to use their car adapter and install a socket on your bike somewhere to plug it into. What i did was buy a C battery unit to plug it into. Does not rattle loose and lasts way longer. You can get one here. I have heard of guys that have disected the cigarette lighter plug and modified it for a hard wire install. Call the guys at the link below and they can help you out. BTW, I really like the legend, it has never let me down.

Now I just gotta get it wired into the battery..... BTW, would using some dielectric grease keep it from turning off until I get it wired in?

Does that use AA or AAA batteries lined up end to end? If so the trick to them is to place the batteries end to end (on the table not in the gps) like they would be in the GPS. But put them in a V with the ends touching. Then place a strip of black tape in the V holding the batteries together. Then when you straighten the batteries out like they are in the GPS it stretches the tape and keeps that center connection from vibrating apart and shutting off. Then on the outter ends were it touches the spring/metal tab dielictric grease.

ANother trick is to figure out were the batteries are under the cover and put little "hershey Kiss" dollops of Silocone under the batterie cover. Then when you snap the cover on the silicone "Kisses" will press against the batteries keeping them in place.

www.Cycoactive.com has all these tips on there site somewere.
