Solid rear brake disc/rotor

what do ya call that thing a disk or rotor? It's loose within four bolts holding it in place holders I guess, but to my touch the rotor is loose within these holders. is that right?

Yeah Bob, they call that a "floating rotor." It's like that to allow the rotor to expand and contract (due to heat) independent of the carrier (the part solidly mounted to the hub). This makes it much less likely to heat warp. Take a look at all sportbike front rotors, they are all free floating. It's super cool :)

yep- its race bike trick. only down-side is sand can get in there and pads can wear a bit faster....thats mostly a desert racer issue.
