connecting rod

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,,,my piston connecting rod will not move freely around the rotor. The rotor spins fine but seems like the connecting rod is stuck in one spot.Any ideas??

Actually,,let me start from the start,,I bought this bike extremely cheap because it was not running. When I pushed the kickstarter through the stroke,I could hear the piston scraping the cylinder.I figured the piston rings were screwed or the cylinder wall was scratched.Broke her down and thats exactly what it was,,the cylinder wall was scratched.Ordered a new piston, rings, cylinder, the whole shabang. Now that I have removed the piston I notice the rod wont rotate on the rotor.could it possibly be the bearings?

Any recommendations?

you need a new crank assembly.

after you split the cases.

be sure and clean the oil pump screen!

pre-lube the motor before you start it.

use a quality torque wrench on the cam cap bolts and only go to 80 in/lbs using a good slathering of assembly lube on the cams & caps.

and since you are doing all this, put in new valve springs, valve seals and a timing chain. it will then be ready for a LOT of fun miles!

Thanks for the info.Ive done a bunch of top end rebuilds over the years but I have never done a bottom end.Is it hard to do?I feel confident I can do it but would like to hear from someone who has been there.I can get a new crank assy for 184.00 dollars so I guess thats no too bad.I paid 260.00 for new cylinder, piston, rings, gaskets, blah blah.I only paid 1000.00 for the bike in the first place and is brand new exept for the motor problems so I guess Im still coming out ahead in the long run.

Thanks again.......Randy
