Save Weight and Save energy

Recommended Posts

I never thought I'd do this....but.....I have taken the e-start off my WR250. With the starter motor, starter clutch and battery gone, I have saved a fair bit of weight - which helps as I mostly do woods racing.

The reason - I fitted a Vortex ignition unit. This thing is great. The bike starts from cold with a single kick, first time every time. On a hot start, you don't even have to stand up, just flip out the kicker and stab it and off the bike goes.

Save weight, buy a decent CDI!! I can't believe how much better the Vortex is compared to stock.

Was at a training day last Sat with Geraint Jones & sons, they've emoved their stater gear and battery saved 4kg they said. I'd rather have the button when I drop it in a special test, easy kick start or not :)

Can you provide a detailed description of what you removed and detailed weight savings of each part. I would like to place this info on ThumperFaq. Also, how did you plug the hole in the case that the starter gear goes through?

Rick
