XR250 fork shim stack

I've seen around here XR400 owners have taken out certain shims out of their forks and have been pleased with the results. I just read a post on another website about one owners experience revalving his shock. How do these guys know how many of which shims to take out, and how it will affect the suspension performance?

Has anyone tried this on an XR250, and been satisfied afterwards? If so, what shim stackup did you use?

I just revalved my 250, I took out 4 of the 7 shims in the base (compression stack) valve. I left the rebound stack unchanged.

Tremendous improvement over sharp edged bumps, rocks, etc. Much less shock to me...front end now soaks it up.
