New Brake Woes

Recommended Posts

Hey TT'ers,

I just bought a new brake rotor for the front of my Honda XR650R.

Installation went OK even though there were no directions in or on the box.

I installed brand new brake pads too.

I went out for a ride and the front brake has some serious issues.

It feels like a warped rotor especially at low speeds right before a complete stop.

It’s really bad. I put the bike on the stand and turned the front wheel while “eyeballing” it and everything looks perfectly straight though.

I didn't get any grease or oil on the rotor while installing it.

I'm stumped. &%$#@!?

Any ideas what I can trouble-shoot?

Hi Max Power,

That's the one I bought! ?

I know it's a killer brake rotor, but I either installed mine wrong or the rotor is dicked-up and EBC will replace it with a new one.

I'll figure it out...

Crap..... Now you have my attention. I wonder what is going on?

Sorry you are having problems with this mod.

Can you post a pic?

I don't have my digital camera handy, and you wouldn't be able to see anything wrong with the brake anyway. ?

But, this thing is messed up.

When I'm coming to a stop my front brake's hand lever actually "pulsates" (he said "pulsates") back and forth!!! :D

It's got to be a warped rotor. I'm going to cop another look at it in the garage. ?

That's the Umpqua River... probably named after an Indian Chief that roamed the area back in the day.

The Funky Chicken is a National Enduro hosted at the Big-K sportsman's ranch south of Eugene, Oregon near Elkton, Oregon. I've never been down there, but it's supposed to be the best riding and racing in Oregon.

Big K Ranch

I'll take pics and write up a race report if I survive.

Besides Chickens, there's a lot of Turkeys down there too. I'll probably look like a Turkey with my dual sport kit, but I don't care... I've got a new tire and I'm ready to ROOST on some fellow newbies...

OK, I got my new EBC Oversized brake it from UPS today and installed it.

It ROCKS!!!

With just 1 or 2 fingers on the brake lever it will haul you to a stop REAL FAST! ?

Use the Sintered Brake pads from EBC.

Get it here for $135...

Nice.

And it gets even better with a couple hundred miles on it.
