03 525SX Clutch Cover Leaking...

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

New to this forum as have only just bought my first 4 stroke bike...

Anyway just been in for it's 30 hour service and on it's first ride start blowing oil out all over the place, from kicking it over seems there is a leak on the clutch cover near the top and it's pumping oil out.. I think I caught it in time still has a fair bit of oil in it.

Is this a common problem on the 525SX? Whats the fix for it?

Cheers

James

I just picked up a used 03, unsure of hours on it but mine did the same thing. I found that the bolts around the kickstarter were loose. I snugged them up and it's been fine ever since.

Hmm. Was going to post the same question here. My 03 525SX used to leak. I tightened the clutch cover bolts which fixed the problem for awhile. Last weekend I went for a ride w/ my kids though (lots of slooow idle stuff) and got back to find the leak had returned. I can even see a bit of the gasket, which leads me to belive maybe I'll just replace the gasket and pay better attention to the torque specs on the clutch cover next time I tighten it, and every few rides after.

Is it me or does the magneseum not seem to hold the bolts in as well.

Question: how about a bit of lock tight on them ?

Thx.

Yes, this is a common problem. Solution is to replace the clutch cover gasket but coat both sides of the gasket with anaerobic gasket maker and make sure not to overtighten the bolts.
