Unabiker rad guard instal help? CRF450X

Recommended Posts

I think I read somewere here that their was a redesign on the CRF450X.

If so I may not have gotten the current model.

I know I could get info from unibiker butt I thought I would share here on TT.

My directions say to take off the electrical connection bracket butt don't say anything about it after that.

If I leave the bolt on it keeps the brace away from the frame?

And am I suposed to bolt it on through the shroud bolt or the bracket bolt?

Same thing with the air pump.

I feal I need to do some drilling????

Do I need to cut the shroud where it lines up with the radiator?

Send Brian at Unabiker an email with your phone # and he'll give you a call. I don't think the design calls for drilling or cutting of any stock parts so you'd be better off checking with him before doing anything.

Note: After I took the bracket bolts off to mount mine the fit was much better and if I understand your question correctly you bolt it through the shroud.

Good Luck

OK here is what I did.

I relocated the brackets for the smog pump and the electric conection by just bolting them to the other side of the bracket bolting point.

I used a shorter bolt for the smog pump and a 1/8 spacer for the electrical, it helped with the tight fit. You'll see.

I could see then the brace bolts to the same spot as the shroud.

I relocated the stock bolt retaing clip on the radiator to the front brace.

Then I used thick washers on the top and bottom bolts so everything has the same reveal.

I had to do some fileing on the left side to get the front , radiator and back to line up. I crashed on that side and may have bent it a little though so that may not be a problem for anybody else....

I then trimed the shroud to fit tight against the brace.

To do this I cut down the part that ran vertical against the radiator.

Then dremeled the part that served as a brace for the shroud.

I think these are hondas attempt at a radiator brace built into the shroud.

Since I'm bolting on braces these can be trimmed safely (I think).

And other spots to fit.

Then I was able to bolt the shrouds on without bending or using any spacers.

I did have to use a longer bolt for the radiator because of the extra layers between the bolt and shroud.

I nice thing was the shroud dosn't rub on the frame anymore.

I could post pic's later.
