xr500r valve question

i just got an 84 xr500r everything is in excellent condition except all four valves were bent i think the guy put fresh rings in it so maybe he set timing wrong? or did the cam chain slip? i have the valves out i was just going to put new valves and guides in or should i buy new cam chain as well? Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks

might as well go with the new chain while your there if it is worn bad. and make sure you torque those bolts right on the cam gear. i didnt torque them right and ended up with a cam gear that broke in half and the chain broke in like 6 places. it was a big mess lol. as far as the valves being bent im not sure why that happens. i had to replace my valves in xr when i redid the engine to because of the same reason.

thanks radar2515 the chain dosent show any wear but ill replace it anyway my freind said they can streach? i only paid 80$ for the bike nothin wrong with it exept motor so it is no big deal.

before i replaced mine the tensioner was all the way out on the chain so i would say my chain was pretty stretched out. they stretch just like a drive chain.
