Steering head bearings...

Recommended Posts

To those of you who haven't yet greased your steering head bearings on your new bike, DO IT! I had been putting it off for several weeks now because I thought it was going to be difficult. Give me a break; this was so much easier than greasing the rear linkage. Special tools? No way, the only "special" tool I used was a 32mm socket for the steering head nut. A screwdriver and a rubber mallet made quick work of the funky nut under the upper bridge clamp. Surprisingly, there was an adequate supply of grease in the bearings, but I repacked them myself just to be sure. Job took about 2 and a half hours taking my time. So to all of you out there who have been putting this job off like I was, you now have no excuse!

Mine had very little. It looked like white lithe on there. You should grease them every year or sooner.
