xr250r backfiring

hey guys...

i tried to search but could not find any threads with symptoms similiar to mine so maybe.....

heres the scenerio,

i havent ridden my bike in prob 3 weeks to a month.it was runnin fine(the best it had ever ran) when i put it up,then we went on vaca for a week and came back on 6/20.today i took it to the place i ride and its runnin like crap.backfiring on decelleration and stalling when idling.

i run 91 octane and its at 1/2 tank.could the gas be the culprit?couldve it gone bad in a month?

it also seems to be running a little warmer than normal.i made sure the oil is at the proper level,which it is.(get to operating temp,shut off bike,remove dipstick,insert into case but do not thread in.with bike upright(not on kickstand))correct?)the dipstick is very hot.hot enough that i cant hold on to it for more than a sec or 2.

any thoughts?

yes the 'petroleum distillate' can go 'off' in as little as two weeks inside the pourus plastic XR tank. i would suggest bad fuel, drain it and the carby bowl.

I run 98 octane Mobil 8000 and its $1.20/Litre AUD.

just for curiosity's sake....suppose the pilot screw is missing...

would this make it backfire and stall???

mmm maybe if it was running fine beofre it went 'missing', i.e. whenit came out it didn't change the mix.
