To Shim Or Not To Shim?

Recommended Posts

That is the question.

The left intake valve on my Son's KLX 300 is at 1.0mm, the low end of the tolerance. The 1.0mm feeler gauge fits freely between the cam and the lash bucket. The dimension is taken in accordance with the method described in the Kawasaki manual. It has not changed over the last couple of rides, and appears to be a stable dimension.

Should I shim it now, or continue to monitor it and wait until the 1.0mm feeler gauge will no longer fit?

Input from those who know would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

I hope that you meant 0.10mm.!!

The shims come in increments of .05mm so if you are feeling ambitious you could go to the next smaller shim or just keep an eye on it.

As it is still in spec, I'd wait until it got a little tighter and then go with a 0.10mm thinner shim.

Ride on
