Weak electrical system

Recommended Posts

My XL500S seems to lack the current it needs to properly operate all of the electrical components. The turn signals barely light up and will only flash if the engine is raced, the horn just makes a sick grunt, and my brake light seems dimmer than it should be. Would a battery eliminator fix this situation?

If your charge coil is partially shorted, current output will be down. Capacitor won't help. You may have a short that isn't enough to blow a fuse. Could be a bad R/R too. I'd check the stator coils. :applause:

Check your stator coil(s). Sounds like too much resistance and it's time to rewind them. A fresh battery won't overcome a bad stator.

A deeper battery charge helped things a lot, have to wait and see if it holds it for any length of time. The turn signals are nice and bright now, but the horn is still barely audible over the engine. A voltmeter is giving me just over 3v at the battery terminals with the no battery and the engine at around 3K.
