Real Advance Numbers?

Recommended Posts

Searched around. No luck. Anyone have hard numbers, or are they top secret? I'm old enough to have a real timing light (gotta blow the dust off), and "the grind the slot some" method is a little crude for me. Most aftermarket advancers are +4. Bone stock for now. TIA!

Nuttin' in the shop manual. I vote for a series of marks on tape on the flywheel in advance of the "F" mark that are in sync with a degree wheel (that's actually been checked for "0" against actual TDC). Let us know what you come up with--I'm running an internal rotor ignition right now but I'd be curious to see exactly how many degrees of advance they actually have programmed into the stock box. Tests on a rev box would be interesting as well.

The physical limit of the backing plate is 2mm. I cut the top hole completely out to a U shape, and the bottom hole as far as it would go and still get the bolt in. Ended up being +3 degrees advance. Not much, but hey, it's free.
