A buddy of mine is rebuilding the motor in his '97 620SX and had a heck of a time finding a piston for it. I emailed Holeshot and they had one, so he bought it from them. When it came in, his engine rebuilder noted that the new piston was Cast - but the original was Forged. The new piston is a "KTM" part, made by KTM so it kind of surpised everyone that it wasn't the same part as the one that came with the bike. I was always under the impression that a Forged part is better and stronger than a Cast part. Is that true? He's been assured that the Cast piston is OK so he's going to go ahead and have them put it in; but I'm just curious why KTM would make two versions of the same part. Anyone have any insight on this?
