Not sure...and I need a sprocket

Recommended Posts

I've got a non thumper bike question. I've have two really great Honda thumpers and would like to increase the speed on a 2002 KX100. The KX is stock and I'm wanting to put on a larger sprocket for longer faster trail rides. The current rear sprocket has 51 teeth, and I've seen a few kits with as much as 55 teeth. Will four teeth substantially increase the speed? And will the risk of damaging my transmission increase?

Thanks

Karl

If you go bigger on the back sprocket it will slow the bike down but give you more torque. If you want more top speed you need to go one tooth bigger on the front sprocket or 2 or 3 teeth smaller on the back sprocket. 1 tooth up on the front would be like going down to a 48 on the back.

Increasing the size of the rear sprocket would decrease top speed. You should go up a tooth on your ft sprocket or down 4 teeth on the rear. When you get confused about this just think of the gears on a 10 speed bicicale. your trans will be fine.
