harjp1959 Posted September 27, 2005 How do I clean my air filter? Yes, I'm an air filter n00b.
rockchucker22 Posted September 27, 2005 Use a good airfilter cleaner that matches the oil you buy. I like bel ray and motul, pj1 is also good.
BikeRider Posted September 27, 2005 Use air filter cleaner and air filter oil. Spray on the cleaner, then wash with warm water. Let dry overnight. Then spray on the filter oil and squish it in with your hands, wring out excess. Install.
shift1313 My Rides (4) Posted September 27, 2005 and wear gloves when you apply the oil. well atleast if you use the belray stuff. its very tacky. A few companies sell buckets if you care to spend the money. Ive got a twin air bucket which has a small metal cage at the bottom. It is supposed to let the dirt settle at the bottom of the bucket and the cage keeps you from pushing your filter into it. They also sell a similar bucket for oiling the filter but ive always done that by hand. The washing bucket was like $13 i think and ive had mine since 97 so id say its paid for itself. Fré Posted September 27, 2005 To clean my filter I use regular loundry soap and hot water. After that I let it dry then soak it in foam filter oil (blue tacky stuff in my case).
2wheels-drz Posted September 27, 2005 think you can buy a full cleaning and oiling kit in tt store,,or just buy pre-oiled one's
DRZ400SK4 Posted September 27, 2005 I use the PJ1 2 in 1 cleaner and filter oil. It's a messy job, so a pair of surgical gloves really makes the job less of a pain in the a$$.
00drzs Posted September 27, 2005 I clean it in gas or greased lightening (spray on degreaser)and dry it in some paper towels and the squirt some motor oil on it, ball it up a few times to get it moist and put it back on . you just want the dust to stick to it, this has worked for me for years. drzridertony Posted September 27, 2005 a little hint for those that don't have rubber gloves. toss it into a big ziploc bag (everyone has those in your kitchen) spray it down then wring it out in the bag. that works great for me. then I close the bag and use it again next time. drzrobbcanuck Posted September 28, 2005 if you're in a pinch, you can use chain lube for filter oil with excellent results-spray-on grease works well too. Engine oil, chain saw chain oil, axle grease-I've used them all. The dirt sticks to them and stays on the outside of the filter. To clean you can also use dish soap and warm water but they are hard on the environmnet as they go into the water system-probably no worse than steroids, urine from female mamals of all types taking/given birth control medication, daipers, cooking grease, pesticides, .........
