Honda 100 Head Compatibility

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine bought an XL100 for his kid but it turns out the cam is wiped.

I beleive the bike is a single shock XL100 (I've never seen it).

I was going to look for a complete head on eBay but I'm not sure which heads fit?

My friend thinks that any head past 1979 (no points in head) will fit?

I think I saw heads with a a frame mount on top and some with a smooth valve cover?

Anybody have the lowdown on Honda 100 heads?

Thanx,

Kevin McDonald

The points are not in the head, just valves and cam and rockers. I would think if it is single shock it is not an XL as I am pretty sure those were all dual shocks. But pretty much any XR80 or 100 head should work for him, maybe even the XR75.

Not sure about XL 100s.

I do know Xr100s will fit on XR80s.

Actually, the XR100 head wont fit on the XR80, something to do with oil paths.

They made a single-shock XL100 in 1985, it has the same engine as an XR100. any year head off an xr100 will work. :banghead:

The older XL100 has a completly different engine, more like an XR200 engine.

The XR100 head will bolt onto a XR80 It's the cyl that won't.

I know that the XL100/80 from the 80's are the same but I'm not so sure about the 70's

yes it will.

But not many people will do that, because the XR80 has a better combustion chamber.

Its the CYl jug that will not fit.
