A litte too rich, fouling plugs often

Recommended Posts

Getting ready to order a new main, and wanted to make sure i am going about this right. Have a 98 xr400. Recently did the top end with new valves, piston, next bore, rings, ext..... Pulled the air snorkel, and already had e-series exhaust. Anyways, i went from stock jets (145/45???) to 160/60. It is a little hard to start when cold, not terribly bad though. I do need choke to start it, but once going i can imediately move to no choke. My plugs are pretty black even after 1 day of riding, and then after a few rides, it wont start without a new plug. I was thinking of trying a 158 main next. I figure i am close to correct jettings, since i still need choke to start it? Should i be changing the main or the clip posistion at this point. Ordering parts today so any insight would be greatful.

its not the main jet.that pilot jet is way to big.theres no reason to be any bigger than a 48 on a xr400.
