Quad Problems...

Recommended Posts

I have a brand new quad. (About a year old) Four stroke Yamaha 660 Rapture.

It starts when the choke is on, it revs and everything, as soon as I turn off the choke, it starts backfiring really bad then turns off.

Won't start unless the choke is on, then turn off the choke, and it dies.

I cleaned the plug and put it back, haven't tried a new plug yet. Air filter is off and same thing. Sounds like something in the carbs but not sure.

Any suggestions?

I think it has something to do with the jetting but not sure.

it has a plugged pilot jet.

Do I take the carbs out or just pull out the jets, don't know much about Carbs and have never jetted a bike before.

But sounds like you know what you are talking about, makes me feel like going out there now and removing the jets and cleaning them and putting them back, is that all there is to it?

More bad news. Took apart my carbs, took out all the pilots, seemed a little dirty, put everything back together, and put a new plug in it. It was strange, seemed liked it worked for a bit then back to normal.

Seems like its not getting any air, do all carbs have air scews on them. I couldn't find any.

So far, you have helped out.

Strange part is, when the problem starts, the red reverse like flashes like maybe its an electrical problem. Is that a possibility?

Thanks for all your help.

still sounds like pilot jet+dirty gas. The light flickers should be the irregular revs of the bike dieing. It could also be the motor trying to commit suicide because stuck it in a quad and not a bike
