04 250F constant leaking coolant

Recommended Posts

My 04 is constantly leaking coolant out the overflow tube. No over pressurizing of the cap, hissing etc. Bike is ridden appropriately to keep cool but as soon as it is stopped it start spewing out a steady stream.

Short ride (around the property and it is my wifes bike so no rev-limiter riding) and it lost a litre of coolant in about 45 mins.

Head gasket? Ideas as to the reason?

Thanks

if the head gasket was blown, the oil would probably have coolant in it. and it may foul plugs. i would try replacing the radiator cap with the KX65 cap. its a bit bigger and helps with the bike running hot.

Head Gasket, same thing happened to mine. Just poured coolant out, not even steam. Cap won't help, you need to replace the gasket. My gasket had blown apart the rubber stuff in between the ports on it. You could actually see the little black rubber floating in the coolant when it first started doing it.

Thanks guys. I agree but wanted some re-assurance.

Next question, how to replace it? Is it a big/difficult job?

Thanks.
