rbkouki Posted October 11, 2005 ANyone else have trouble getting these off? Ive had my bike (02 xr250r) about 3 weeks now and riden maybe 5 times. went to adjust the valves and I guess whoever last adjusted the valves put some damn torque on these things because when I put a wrench on the first one it completely rounded off all the corners so now what?? Any ancient japanese secret technique involved in not having to spend 60+ dollars to replace all 4 covers. Thanks, James.
Tubo Posted October 11, 2005 If you've already rounded the corners, go buy a new set of caps. To remove them when seized on, take a chizzle and hammer and bite the chizzle into the cap with a hammer so the strikes turn the caps counterclockwise. They will break loose and come off. Sometimes a 6pt socket will do the trick without rounding the corners, but once rounded it's too late.
