Get new bike but keep old one too- Any tips to help sell to Wife?

Recommended Posts

Help!!,

I am really wanting to get an '06 YZ250F. With the TT ride reviews and such it is near equal to Playboy Forum. "MotoPorno".

I currently have a '99 WR 400 that is now set up for the street. With the price of fuel, I want to keep it and ride it to work starting next spring.

The old WR proved to be a tank on the local track. I have been dreaming of a new YZ250F for a few years now. I have been borrowing my buddies bike ('04 YZ250F). It was much better than his '02. I can't wait to try an '06.

Please post any ideas that could help a fella out to help sell the idea to keep both bikes to my wife. Up to and including getting a new wife :banghead:

Until I figure this conundrum out, I'll be checking my lottery tickets.

TC.

Start by looking at street bikes with her. Don't forget to show here the price tags Get the 250f and tell her the trad-in value was not there. ($1500 for the WR400?) Then bring up the idea that you can save money by keeping the 400 and convert it to street legal. Save on gas and on not buying a new street bike. Of coase this did not work for a friend of mine. He now has a 04 WR250F and a new V Star Classic in the garage. Turns out his wife want a cruiser she could ride on as well. My wife feels differently than his :banghead:

Good Luck

buy the 06, telling her that you are going to sell the old bike. Then after some time goes by and she asks why you still have it, just say you are having no luck selling it and take the :banghead: for buying a new bike before getting rid of the old one....my wife is still cursing me :banghead:

First off, that quote should suffice alone. Just back it up with what you really honestly can expect to make off selling your '99 (ie. not much), and just tell her it's worth way more to you than the few bucks you'll get for it.

I would need at least double in $ what my '01 is worth, to make the $ more valuable than the bike to me.

Although, the fuel savings thing really doesn't work out to as much of a savings as one would think....it would take over 3 years to get the return on the $1500 WR400 assuming your car gets 18mpg and the bike would get 30mpg, gas price is $3 per gallon and you drive 500 miles per month. It'd probably be alot more than 3 years because that also assumes that you would not drive your car at all, only the bike. Sorry, hopefully your wife doesn't read thumpertalk!! :banghead:

Just tell her that what you say is the bottom line because your the king of the castle. If she talks back give her a black eye.

:banghead: j/k You could just tell her that you'll lose your ass on selling it and it would be better to keep it for your son that you might be having (this apeals to thier biological clock). If you don't plan on having kids then tell her you want to keep it so you two can ride together someday.

Tell the wife you'll have whatever bike you want.

I dont let no woman control how I spend MY money.

When you're married the y drops off of "yours".

I think the F350 with a 460 in the driveway would have the gas thing paid off in 1.5 years. Its a slurpee pig on fuel. She has a brand new DR 125L so I will guilt her into the fact I need a lighter bike because I'm getting older. My three boys are getting older but are still to young for the WR. As they get faster and more aggressive, I will further need a more nimble bike.

Thanks for your input.
