Removing CS sprocket without chain installed?

Recommended Posts

I wanna replace my countershaft sprocket, I know you're supposed to hold the rear brake, but I have no chain installed. Is there a different way to remove it or will I have to install the new chain before I can get the old sprocket off?

Install the chain is the easiest. Impact wrench if you have one. Wedge sounds risky to me. Make a sprocket holder: piece of flat bar and 2 bolts to engage sprocket teeth.

I'm with Noble on this one, anytime you wedge anything in any where to stop movement you run the risk of breaking something, even if the wedge is just wood or even a rag.

If it has never been replaced before...I'll bet that if you straighten the washer...your fingers will be all the you need to remove it. The nut will probably be extremely loose. Mine was.
