joseb Posted October 15, 2005 I am a little confused as to the amount of oil this bike takes. The dealers tell me that it takes 1.16 quarts or 1.1 liters including oil filter. The manual has 1.22 us quarts for periodic oil change 1.32 us quarts with oil filter change 1.48 us quarts total amount The amounts from 1.32 and 1.48 is quite a difference. I will be changing the oil filter along with oil change everytime. How much is really required?? Should i go by the window port. The manual does not say anything about the level in the window, it just say's to make sure you see oil in the window. I assume that the oil has to be in the middle of the window. 785 Posted October 15, 2005 yeah in the middle is fine but you could go 2 or even 3 rides in between oil/filter changes. I do it every
joseb Posted October 15, 2005 The way the manual is, total amount is above the window??
vitruvianman Posted October 15, 2005 Trust the manual, not the dealer.
joseb Posted October 15, 2005 Back to my question, which level is the correct one for a filter change also?
walent215 Posted October 15, 2005 1.32 or go by the window
joseb Posted October 15, 2005 Today i filled it with 1.32 and it is over the window?? I have never had this much trouble with something so simple. The manual is out of wack. If i go by the window it's less oil than recommended. I think the window is throwing me off. Any ideas from you new owners of 06 yz250f???
aedwards07 Posted October 15, 2005 I would go by the Manual. When the oil warms up it will give a different reading than you would get with cold oil.
joseb Posted October 15, 2005 Cold or hot i'ts above the window level.
mxmark Posted October 15, 2005 Cold or hot i'ts above the window level. Did the new oil go to the oil tank? Did you drain the oil tank? page 3-13 *Oil level Oil should be up to the full level in the check window. Congrats, on the new bike. Don't worry you will get your deposit back. Thanks Mark
YZ250F_Rider Posted October 15, 2005 Does the manual say it was supposed to be below the top of the window? Did you recheck the window after running it for a couple minutes? The majority of the oil will reside in the oil tank and not in the engine. Cant say for certain, but I would bet $10 that if you fill the engine up based on the window you will not add enough oil. FlynRyn Posted October 16, 2005 Oil level inspection for 2006 YZ250F 3-13 of Owners Manual provided with M/C "ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION 1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn off the engine and wait for five minutes. 2. Place the machine on a level place and hold it up on upright position by placing the suitable stand under the engine. 3. Inspect: • Oil level Oil should be up to the full level in the check window 1. Level check window is not full. → Add 0.2 L (0.18 Imp qt, 0.21 US qt) of oil." 3-16 of Owners Manual Oil change specs 1.15L Periodic oil change 1.25L With oil filter 1.40L Total "as in rebuilt motor and engine is totally dry" The window is for inspection only really. If you see any air gap when following the above procedure add 200CC of oil. If you are ever in doubt just drain the oil and add 1.15 L of Oil for some cheap insurance.
