Just bought a 1997 XR600R...any advice?

Recommended Posts

This bike is new to me. i have the service manual, but don't have the owners manual.

Choke on up or down?

I'm thinking down.

Starting w/ or w/o choke doesn't seem to make much difference.

It's a 3-4 kick affair.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems to be a well maintained bike and is very clean (no damage, plastics are all original and in pretty good shape)

Thanks,

T

Congrats! :banghead: I have the same bike, and I love it! The only problem I have had with mine is I sucked the bottom part of the choke plate into the engine, which let to rebuilding the top end, TWICE!!!? I had been told to check it, and replace it, with a billet one from XR's Only, but I waited too long. Other than that, the bike is great for play riding with my boys, racing through the desert, and as far as climbing hills, well John Deere turns a darker shade of green when I tractor up through some of the toughest climbs in Nelson Hills! :banghead:

Enjoy!?

Hey,

I did the same thing as you.

My choke plate was sucked into my engine.

I was lucky it only banged against the spark

plug and closed the gap and so it instantly

shut off the engine. Got it home and to make

a long story short, I blew the piece out the intake

valves with compressed air and a vacume!!!

No engine damage, compression is good.

I didn't buy a new choke or carb.

I installed a primer bulb system.

Starts even easier!! :banghead:

Maybe choke already broke off ? usually 1-2 kicks cold with choke on . I would not ride until choke flap is verified . I got a QS carb before mine broke . My buddy , not so lucky , cost him over 2k .
