Trivial ? for Burned

Recommended Posts

I noticed in the side case casting of my DRZ 400 S there is a plug to drain the oil filter cavity. Should this be used when changing oil? This would make three plugs to remove for an oil change...correct?

If you mean the plug in the side of the case...not the bottom...then it is the oil inspection plug. It does not need to be removed for oil changes. According to the manual it is for the purpose of making sure there is enough oil in the case for safe starting on fresh motor.

it makes a little less mess if you pull that plug but it is not required for an oil change. it is there for other reasons.

It is an oil pressure test port, does not need to be removed, i believe the torque is 21 ft lbs

And it's an all alloy thread, so the chances of damaging it through repeated removal are high.

Leave it in there, unless you want to do an oil pressure check.
