REASON #101 why im an idiot!!

Recommended Posts

long story short is...i bought my XR used a month or so ago...and ive been in the process of 'gussying' her up little by little.

this past weekend was the installation of a KOUBALINK...no biggee.

so, i get the rear link in. no biggee.

all thats left to sort out is the front forks.

i unbolted ALL 8 bolts - so that should be it...nothing happens.

"ahHA!!!" says i.

i lower the jack.

still nothing.

hmmm.

i climb on and jump up and down a couple of times...nothing.

i raise the jack.

they go down easy enough - but not up.

hmmm.

so i bolt it back together - went for a ride - seems fine.

later i was reading that NOT lowering the front forks is a VERY BAD IDEA.(seems logical)

i go back @ it today to finish it off - still nothing.

im about to walk away from it - and (as im pushing down on it again) i notice two TEENY TINY screws holding the fork boots in place.

D'OH!!!!🤣

all better now.

two small screws...and the nut in my head.

thats all it took.

ha!! :banghead:

Giggle...

I've never done nothing stupid... no never.

At least you didn't break anything that costs a couple hundred bucks. Consider yourself lucky.

#102

You posted reason #101 on the internet for hundreds of millions of people to see.

FYI - #101 is funny. Perhaps we can all try and out-stupid you.

My most annoying idiot story is indirect. I am the idiot who lent my KDX and wasn't there when it was ridden.

The rider complained about the soft front end (pretty stupid to complain about a borrowed bike). He was right, the front end on a '94 KDX is set up for a 100 lb kid and he is over 200 lbs.

Experienced riders with him told him to adjust the top adjusters on the fork by unscrewing them. Unfortunately there are no adjusters on the top of the forks, just air release screws.

Not only did he ride it home after there wasn't much oil left, fork oil is a pain to clean up and one of the scews never did come home. I can only hope he was covered in fork oil.
