Mee Goreng Posted October 17, 2005 Hello Guys, Just bought a KTM 400 EXC, need some clues about maintening the bike in good conditions. Before going offroad, what are the critical points on that bike that I have to look at? Thanks....
raven-9 Posted October 17, 2005 keep up with your valve adjustments, tunes and oil changes, also i would recomend lock tighting all the bolts u can, some of them are not so tight from the factory and will rattle loose over time!
crossEDup Posted October 17, 2005 If you've never owned a KTM, make sure that you follow the recommended proceedure for setting the correct chain tension. On KTM's, when the tension is set properly, it will look VERY loose compared to other bikes. You have to learn to ignore loose chain warnings you get from riding buddies that aren't aware of KTM chain tension. Setting the chain too tight can cause many problems from restricting rear suspension travel, leaking countershaft seals, broken countershaft, broken chain taking out the clutch slave cylinder, etc. Get radiator guards. Get a good full coverage skid plate. Get an aftermarket (wider) chain guide (EE makes one).
