Soft kick starter

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

a buddy of mine has a XR400 and his kickstarter is very soft. you can turn that engine all the time and don't fell that "click" locking the engine. You don't have to use the decompresser for turning the engine.

A couple of months ago he change the piston in the dealer and it got a little bit better but nothing that compares to what I've seen in another bike, that kickstarter doesn't get hard to push.

I don't know if the valves are loose, it seem that the bike don't have any compression but it rev's OK and stronger. I have a DRZ400 and he can keep up with me in a straight line.

Is it that hard to inspect the valve adjustment?

My friend is no mechanic and I'm not better them him but I believe that we can do a better job then he's local dealer. He charge him to much money for changing the piston and he is kind of broke right now. Can someone get me some kind of "HOW TO" with pics???

Thank in advance.

BTW, it's a 98 XR400 and excuse my bad English.
