Will a rear shock from a yz125, yz250, or a yz450 fit my 2003 yz250f? Please reply with any ideas?

Quoting,

Shocks are different lengths through the revisions of the swing arm.

98-01 are the same

02-04 are the same

Then 05

Dont know about the 06 if it works with the 05s, but since there was major revisions to the linkage and swingarms probably not correctly.

Now keep in mind the years that dont interchange may bolt up fine. But the different lengths in the shocks and the valving may cause problems in handling and bottoming

Probably, but the valveing and spring rate will be different. Check the eye to eye length with your bike.

Probably, but you might have to revalve it. The current forks on my 450 were originally on a YZ250F and were revalved for MX. They work fine (with the right springs), so there's a chance.

I have an 01' shock revalved for an 01' yz250f mounted up on an 03' yz125 and it seems to work pretty good, but I have only ridden it one day (2 motos). I had not ridden the bike prior to taking off the stock 03' shock, so I don't have a comparison. I was actually intersted in lowering the seat height on this bike just a bit and I think with the shorter shock length it somewhat accomplishes my objective. Just guessing, the difference in length between the 01' and 03' shock is probably about 1cm.

What is the difference in all these? I see the 2nd and 3rd letters are different. But what else?

The 03 shock is 5mm shorter than the 02 unit

I called my local dealer today and asked him, "Will a rear shock off a 02 yz125 fit my 03 yz250f?" He replied "the part numbers are different" but i already knew this. Does someone know for sure that a shock off a 02 yz 125 will fit on a 03 yz 250f? Thanks for any help you may give me.

P.s. Is there a better dealer that I can call to ask them this or will all dealers say the same thing?
