Twist1 Posted October 21, 2005 My Dad recently purchased a 2006 CRF250R for me. I had a 2004 before that and used Honda GN4 Oil in the transmission, and Honda HP4 with molybdenum additives in the engine. I have seen HP(high performance) Trans. Oil 80w/85w at my local Honda shop. I was just wondering if the HP Trans. Oil would be better for my transmission, but still give me the dependability. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Throttlejockey Posted October 21, 2005 The HP 80/85gear oil is all I've run in all my CRF's. Never had to replace a clutch and never had any problems. I've tried a few other oils and the HP seems to work the best.

rolandb Posted October 21, 2005 I've run both GN4 and the HP Trans Oil in the tranny on my '04X. I couldn't tell any difference with the HP, so switched back to GN4 so I only have to keep one kind of oil around. Honda recommends either one for the tranny, so I'll stick with GN4.
