boxfan23 Posted October 21, 2005 Well i got this replacement stator cheap. I need it for 1 of my engines. So i get it, its from a 1982 and my engine is a 1981. I take it out and its way diffrent then the one i that is hashed up. First thing i notice right away is a Round circle battery looking thing to the right side of the stator,3 wires on top of it. Now on my other stator it dont have the round thing, and it has 1 wire. This one has 4 wires. Can anyone tell me how do i set this up or what is wrong here. Guest XR EVOLUTION Posted October 21, 2005 The round battery thing is called a condensor , boxfan . You should take both plates to a bike shop or auto electrician and they will show you how to swap it over or supply you with a new condensor to suit your old plate and test it for you to make sure it works . I can tell you that one black wire from the condensor goes to the points and one goes to the top coil on the '74 XR 75 . Has the new plate got two coils , if so , one is probably only for lights or charging or something ? Gotta watch what I say , someone might pick a fault with it and try to steer the thread off into another direction . I make full apologies if I've come across as an egotistical , condescending , snotty nosed , know-it-all and rambled on too much ! Perhap one of the other skeptical "EXPERTS" on TT will show how smart they are and come to your aid instead of leaving you in the lurch like they did with your cam timing problems ! Guest XR EVOLUTION Posted October 21, 2005 Sounds like it's an XL80S alternator . Just find which wire comes straight off the points and plug it into the wire that leads to your coil then tape the others up and that should be it . ' hope this helps you ! klxd Posted October 21, 2005 If the bike you're using it on has a condenser up by the coil, disconnect it if you are using the one on the stator.
