Cleaning Oil filter

Hey what do u guys use 2 clean the metal mesh style oil filters? Can u use gas or is that a 'no no'?

ok, just found my shop manual, it says: oil strainer - clean with solvent. so any suggestions what kind of solvent to use? when i was little my dad cleaned EVERYTHING with gasoline.

I'd just replace the damn thing. Figure if you use gas to clean it...the cost of the gas is going to be comparable to the cost of the new filter...and your hands won't get smelly. :banghead:

Mine too. I seem to be passing it on to my kids too. I am starting to use more kerosene instead tho'.

I'd just clean it w/ gas, as long as there's no rubber or anything on it.

Use kerosine. What is it on? Is it a Scotts filter? If it is a Scotts, those things go for $100.

are u talkin about that thing in the crank case on the ttr 125? cause i just cleaned mine with mineral spirits
