Checking Valves....

Guys,

For those that have checked there valves. This is my 1st 4 stroke, can I do any harm checking them ??

Is this a simple thing that a semi mechanical guy can do himself ??

Hey Geez, looks like we will be comeing to splendy in a couple of weeks. You in? On the valves, it is not that hard. you can't do any harm checking them and if you need help. You know i'm there. By the way saw Monty today. he's getting that itch !!

Only if you check them wrong or drop a wrench or dirt into the engine with the valve cover off. To check the valves, you must be sure you are at TDC on the compression stroke. At TDC on the compression stroke, the cam lobes will be pointing out from the center about 45 degree.

I will add that the owners manual that comes with the bike give detailed, simple directions on how to do it. You must also order the shim kit ahead of time, or just check them and order the kit if they need adjusted.

I did my shims the other day, Im also new to the thumper world and loving it so far

Just check what shim is in there because the manual gives you no size and you might order the wrong size
