XL250 valve seats

Recommended Posts

I have an 82 XL250R engine here which has dropped an exhaust valve insert, I went to the bike store and was told by the parts guy that the valve seats were probably just machined into the head on a stock XL250 because he could not find the part on the micro fiche, the one I have here has inserts.

Has the head been machined to accept inserts or did it come this way from the factory?

Engine reconditioners want $100 to machine an insert and the head.

Anybody have a head or cam for this bike they would like to sell??

Also does anybody know of an online parts catalog for hondas?

Cheers

Honda sells the head assembled with the valve seats and guides already there.

The head will need to be re-machined with a new insert. Your best bet if you cant find a good used head is to just have a shop fix it.

The valve seat is not aluminum, it wouldnt last 10 minutes. There is a hardened valve seat that is shrink fitted into the head. However, Honda does not sell the valve seat individually. The factory installs the valve seats into the head before it gets stocked.

EDIT: I forgot the valve guides can be bought individually.
