nks Posted October 24, 2005 i'm buying a CRF450 04, that has been raced i don't know much about CRF's in terms of any problems or concerns i should be looking for, so if anyone could tell me that would be greatly appreciated i know a race bike means a bit of hard work, but i see it as its a bike that has been looked after, sure it's been ridden hard but at least well maintained, so if there's anything to look out for pls tell thanks ---- nick ----
gchprime Posted October 24, 2005 Have the valve clearances checked as well as the water pump seal. Inspect the entire intake system for leaks as well. Make sure the spokes are tight and not bent. Check sprocket bolts for tightness. Remove bottom of carb to check for 'silt'. Inspect the forks and shocks for any leaks or rebound issues. Pull the clutch cover and get a look at the clutch basket for grooves. There are actually a bunch of stuff to look at but as I have raced an 04' CRF450 these are the areas that needed attention. nks Posted October 24, 2005 cheers mate, all good stuff as i'm buying this from a dealer, and the guy who raced it works there, it's good because i can get all the past info of him and the guys down at the dealership are really good blokes, and my mate bought his bike from there about 10months ago and has had no troubles whatsoever and was immaculately prepared before sale... how was the bike to race? lunchbox Posted October 25, 2005 yeh bought it and in love already... love the power!!! anyone know estimately Hp and top speed figures? i've heard that a stock 450r pushes out anywhere from 49-55 horse, stock bikes are geared to top out at around 85, but if your bike is raced, like my 03 is, its prolly geared low, for track racing, mine tops out at around 70, but it gets there quick! tp3dxf Posted October 26, 2005 Most racers hammer their bikes but also take good care of them as well. The race to finish. I would almost rather buy a bike from a racer then a Kook. A racer will hammer a bike but also make sure the bike will finish. A squid will just ride till failure. A racer will finish. Just my take. A raced bike is not always a bad thing. They are looked after better in my experience.
