04 xr400 jetting

I had an 02 XR400 with White Bros pipe, Notoil air filter (screening cut out of filter cage), snorkle removed and welds ground out of the header pipe. Ran at 500-1500 ft in CA. Ended up with a 160-60 main and pilot and ran like a bat out of hell.. I could pull newer and supposedly "better" bikes.

Because these bikes do not have an accelerator pump on the stock carbs, you will get a slight bog when the throttle is cracked.. Mine was minimal with this set up.

I've switched to a YZF 426 with an accelerator pump on the carb and the response with a sharp twist is much better.. Very quick revving.

I have an 03, uni air filter, snorkel removed, white bros. e series and I am running w/ 165 main & 62 pilot and the needle is 5 from the top. I'm fighting the same problem and basically everyone has told me the same thing, roll the throttle. I've paid twice to have it dialed in. :applause:
