What to do in Upstate NY on January 13th

Recommended Posts

Well... if it was this year, you go riding.

Got to put the maiden ride on my new '06 KX250F is what I got to do. Picked it up a few weeks before Christmas and all I could do was stare at it in the garage. Thank you Mother Nature, I was begining to lose my mind.

I've been a 2 smoker fan all my life and come from the old school and still riding 25 years later at age 36. I swore I'd never succumb to the ways of the thumper. Whoops, my bad. I'm hooked!!! What a ride. I can't believe how smooth the power delivery is, how nice the bike rides. What a torque monster. I always rode my 2 strokes half out of control, it was either gas on or gas off, point and rip. This new KX is a whole new story and I can't wait to write it. I was turning faster lap times on our little track in no time compared to my '94 KX 125. Granted, the technology has come along way but the '94 has always been a ripper. It's just the '06 thumper is a joy to ride and never did I feel like the bike was going to get away from me at any second like I did on my 2 stroke. I LOVE it.

Ok... enough gushing... here's a couple picks of the first time out.

Nice looking riding area and a nice looking ride! It was about 60 degrees and sunny in upstate NY on the 13th, but it was dark by the time I got home from work...and this weekend it got all snowy and cold again. You definitely did the right thing by taking the opportunity to ride the new bike! :applause:

I can't believe the difference a couple days makes... As for Friday, a couple friends and I blew outta work around 2:00 just to go riding... priorities!!!

Sounds like your weather is a carbon copy of mine... where in NY are you? I'm outside of Rochester. The riding area is nice but it's small. I'm in the process now of looking for some land of my own to build a home and a track on.

Im outside of Rochester too, where is that place? I rode at Mix Rd. in Albion last weekend. Nice cause it's all sand, all the other places around here were swamped all week though...

wegMX - that land we were on is in Victor right along the thruway - the other side of Rochester from you. It's privately owned by a developer but we got his permission to ride up there. Unfortunately we're going to lose it soon. They are looking at putting up a strip mall and some office buildings. It's in the early stages and still needs to get all the approvals from the town but it will be gone someday. I'm looking for land on the east side to build a home and a track. PM me and maybe we can hook up and ride sometime.

x2468 - I said I was old school when everything was color coordinated... I'm currently shopping for new gear so that will change soon enough. And yes, I do belive I glow just a touch when the sun goes down. The '06 KX250F comes highly recommended from me. I love the thing and a few of my buddies put some hot laps on it too and are in lust with it also.

Garrett Poucher and Skyler Howes of Garrett Offroad Racing are headed to Dakar!  These US privateers are headed there for their first times but Skyler is fresh off a victory at last week's Baja Rally, won the Sonora Rally in March and this team placed third in the Baja 1000.

They have a fundraising link set up and could use your help.
I raced with Garrett at Baja Rally last year and then both of them at Sonora and was honored to pit with them as well.  They're both super guys and work their assess off.  I think they both have good chances of not only finishing the 11 days of Dakar but placing well.
They're doing some rally training events this Sat, Oct 20 in Santa Clarita, CA and then another Oct 28th in St. George Utah so if you've ever considered learning rally raid navigation, this is your chance!  It's a lot of fun too.  More info on that at the link.

Looking to buy a used Beta 2017 500 RRS from outside California.  Can I plate (Register with CA DMV) the bike in CA?  If so what is the best way?  Don't have the money to put down for a new bike from a Dealer in CA.  Any help or sugguestions would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
