03 crf 450 w/ jd kit

I also posted this in the jetting sect.

Bike runs lean, pop and cracks on decel, head pipe glows after about a minute.

elev. 550

outside temp 30-50 (usually closer to 30)

blue needle in 4th pos.

178 main

42 or stock main jet

aftermarket pipe

Do I need to change clip position, main or slow jet? Or all of them?

just turn the screw out a half a turn.

The pipe glowing is normal.

I know temp and humidity make a difference. This summer I had it spot on.

I hurt my wrist and haven't rode since Nov 6. Now it is cold out and I just didn't know how "aggressive" to be in my changes.

1/2 on fuel screw cleaned the pilot,and went with a 180 main. Runs good on the stand. :thumbsup:

I have an 03' and I think mine kit said use the red needle in the 5th position? But I ride in 60-80 temp. Do you still have the paperwork with the kit? If not, I will double check and re-post if you want... But I agree, out on the air screw a bit..

How well does it pull on the stand?

It doesn't pull very well at all on the stand...too heavy, maybe I need to put some casters on it. :thumbsup:

It ran like crap on the stand before now it has smoothed out and doesn't want to pop, crack, and backfire. So now I know it is close. I probably will have to fine tune it later but it is close.

It did run terrible.

Red needle in the 5th and blue needle in the 4th are about the same. Blue needle richens up the bottom.
