screw on top of forks

there is a screw on the top of the forks. the guy i bought it from said they were to let out air or something like that. can anyone explain how to use this or to just leave them alone.

The two screws bleed the air from inside the fork.I personally bleed them before I haul,after I haul before I ride and in between rides.If you ride all day and don't bleed them,the fork action will usually fade.Doing this also helps save fork seals due to releasing the pressure inside.

Its to equalize the pressure in the forks with the atmospheric pressure. If you transport your bike a few thousand feet or go from hot to cold, the pressure inside will change. All you have to do is open the screw till the air escapes and tighten them back up.

so basically doit after the forks are compressed from transporting, and thanks

bike needs to be on a stand and forks fully extended when bled.

Just buy the push butten style bleeders and it is a FAST procedure.
