Anyone using non-Race Tech suspension?

Recommended Posts

Just got my yearly bonus and want to get the best bang for my $$.

My thoughts are to upgrade my stock suspension and add a steering stabilizer to my 2001 XR400. I ride desert and mountain trails.

Has anyone used suspension mods and components other than Race Tech?

Components such as Showa, KYB, White Power, and Ohlins.?

A local shop, Independent Suspension of San Luis Obispo, CA., quoted me a front and rear suspension upgrade. New front springs, plated valves, etc. using Showa and Ohlins components, for about the same price as Race Tech. Also, no shipping costs, just drop them off and pick them up in 7 days.

Any thoughts or comments are welcomed...

I would get the race-tech base valve for the forks. It isn't the regular "gold valve" kit - it is a complete replacement base valve that is a big step up over the stock valving.

On the rear shock - a race-tech gold valve isn't necessary and a good suspension tuner can do alot with the stock piston.

For suspension work - LTR in washington state is the very best and is also very reasonably priced. www.lt-racing.com He specializes in gasgas/husky stuff these days - but owns an XR and has done hundreds of them over the years.
