04" WR450 stator mod

question, why do we have to do this mod. I am running the headlight and tailight only. I would think that Yamaha would have designed a system that would allow these two components to operate and have the battery charge itself.

There are two coils that produce electricity, one goes through the rectifier and charges the battery, the other goes to the lights. Therefor the lights do only turn on when the motor is running. They are independent of each other.

If you are going to put HID lights on you need to combine those two coils into one (modifying the stator) and replace the rectifier with a unit that handles more power.

Also, the lighting portion is AC current only. Why???
