Trouble with new 450

I have a squealing noise coming from the lower part of the engine when cold.

It goes away after about 30 seconds. I have only road the bike once for about 2 hours. I have checked all fluids and everything seems ok. Can anybody help?

It sounds kinda like a belt slipping on a car would sound...

Mine does that too. I didn't notice it with the helmet on during the first few rides, but without a helmet you can hear a whistling sound while slowly accelerating. I think it's a normal sound. ?

I called the honda shop that i bought it from and the service manager said the kick start gear will sometimes make a wierd noise but mine is much lower in the engine than that.

Is it a really loud squeal and does it go away completely when hot? Mine is the same hot or cold and is more like a whistle, not really loud. You can't really hear it when riding near other riders or with a helmet on.

I have seen 2 new 06 crf's do this "Squeal" on the stand.. Both bikes were warming up, then started squealing and the rear tire started too spin.. I read on another forum too add a ounce of fluid too the transmission too solve the problem..

Read the blown trans threads in the X forum. some good write ups on trans issues and oil quantities.

Many of us have typed these words a dozen or so times! Just overfill your tranny about 20-40 cc's. It's the kick start idler gear asking for more oil. Honda hasn't figured it out yet as well as most dealers.

Damn....I heard this same squealing noise about two or three minutes after I started my bike up. The squeal sounded like it was coming from an area where the kickstarter gear is. The bike was on the trailer (not in gear), getting ready to see dirt for the first time tomorrow. I quickly shut it off and restarted several times, but was unable to get it to squeal again.

Kinda scary..... ?

Well, I'm still waiting for an anwser from the honda shop.

They drained the oil and found no metal in it. They think it is the kickstart gear/bushing. I don't know what is next. I hope to hear something today. I will let you know what they say...

ya just put some more oil in it and the problem is gone
