hmm rattling?

when i ride my fifty as i get towards the end of the gears i hear a rattling sound coming from my tranny or around there. Its usually when i over-rev in first or top out in 3rd. Whats up with my bike because i cant locate the problem when im riding.

Is it a rattling or a ticking sound? Just try to describe it better. It may be your valves. Are you sure it's from the transmission? It could be your chain hitting something, but that would not be affected by RPM, I don't think. Tough question. Once again, try describe better.

theres so many parts on your bike that could cause that, you need to go through and tighten your bolts, check parts for unusual wear, check your oil.

well its not a ticking sound for sure its like a ringing or kind of a spinning rattle sound that would happen if you spun a skateboard wheel, that kind of sound, and yeh it seems to be comin from the tranny but i cant tell

ya i would like to know what that is from to. I was riding in my neighborhood and when i let off the gas i heard sort of a rattle... then it wouldn't do it again at all... my friends 50...100% stock beats the crap out of it and it makes that noise all the time

exactly, thats my problem if i pin it for a long time ill get that rattling and when i let off it will go and then stop

Skateboard wheel sound. If your clutch is slipping, MAYBE it would make a sort of sound like that. Once again it could be the chain hitting something.

yeh i hope its not the clutch, maybe when i get to higher speeds the chain raises or tenses up and scrapes, but it also happened both after and before a new swingarm was put on.

My kid's 50's have both had problems with the screws that hold the heat shields on the exhaust pipe. You might want to ensure they are all still there and not loose. The are a few of them somewhat hidden on the underside of the pipe that when loose sound similar to what you are describing.

I have a 70 and I heard a similar noise and it turned out to be the back fender vibrating. Next time it does it put your hand on the back fender. Worth a try...
