?...more fit than tuning...?

I've got a '98 XR 650 L and am looking to make it more of a street bike. I was wondering if a CBR (or similar) fork would fit into the frame, and what the travel is on a fork like that. I don't need 11" of travel, and the bike could stand to be a bit steeper. Also, would a CBR rear wheel fit into the frame. The reason I ask... I could find a used set of wheels and a fork off of some crotch rocket much easier and cheaper than lacing up a set of supermoto wheels and totally rebuilding all of my suspension. Sorry if this is blasphemy, I'm new here ?

note: I guess I would need to deal with the rear suspension somehow, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

?? No, no, no-how, no-way. Not without enough remachining to by at least one new bike.

Why not just have the bike lowered an inch or two? That you could have done for a few hundred bucks.
