I recently pulled my clutch cover on my 2000 426 to replace the clutch plates & springs and do a visual inspection. To my dismay the boss was rather loose, had quite a bit of slop and the locking washer had one broken tab. When I bent down the remaining tabs, which put pressure on the boss it felt as it should but I'm concerned what may have caused this. Upon re-assembly last summer I torqued nut to spec and installed the lock washer when installing my new billet clutch basket (which mentioned nothing of a new torque value), so I'm real surprised by this. Are there any obvious signs to look for in a worn clutch boss? I dont want to replace if not necessary.
