33 pumper set-up

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm putting a mikuni 33mm pumper flatslide on my 03 xr250. I was wondering if anybody out there has done this and if so how are you jetted and what jet needle do you have? I'm just trying to get an idea where to start to save some time tuning the carb. Right now i still have the stock pipe on.

thanks.

I had a 33mm mikuni flatslide carb on my 86 xr250 with a Twin air and a muzzy pipe and it absolutely ripped. Tons of top end, sacrificed a little low end but it was more than worth it. Sorry I cant help with the jetting / needle settings as it has been a few years. Not sure if your 03 has a removable spark insert but I would remove it.

Hey stroked,

thanks for the reply even without the info, morale builder, my wife thinks i'm crazy to change it. i do have the exhaust insert but i think i will go with an aftermarket pipe like you did. in addition i'm going to put in a big bore kit so i'm hoping for big increase in power and have that light weight to boot. thanks again.

No problem bro, always looking to fire people up! With the carb, exhaust, and filter the bike pulled like a 2 stroke on the top end, I mean endless. Then I bored it up to a 280 and added a mild cam, cam chain, and valve seals and the thing was nuts. I bought mostly everything from Al Bakers XR'S Only. I rode it HARD, I mean power shifting not letting off the gas EVER, HARD! All I can say is I hope to heck my 450 is half as durable!

Good luck!

Sounds good. i'm going to do the 280 bore also. good to hear that it stays dependable. most of my mod experience is with snowmobiles and dependable is not part of that scenario. thanks,
